Youth Ministry - Leadership

Chris Henze has served as Youth Minister of Concordia since January 2007.  He has over 20 years of youth ministry leadership serving congregations in Tennessee, California, Arkansas and now North Carolina.  Chris is married to Stephanie who is also a “Called” Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod educator.  They have 5 children ages 9 to 16 and have looked into the possibility of adoption.

Chris received his Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies and his certification as a Director of Christian Education (with a specialization in Youth and Family Ministries) from Concordia University in Irvine, California.  Chris has taken many outreach courses including “Dialog Evangelism 2” and “Opening Doors to the Future.”  He grew up around the lakes and hills of eastern Tennessee and thoroughly enjoys swimming, boating, fishing, skiing, hiking, and camping, which the family tries to do every summer.

Chris’ recent ministry challenge started when he endured a 50 foot fall in the Superdome at the 2010 National LCMS Youth Gathering in New Orleans.   In the accident he broke his right ankle and foot, left foot, left pelvis, left elbow and hand, and 4 left ribs; but not his spirit.  With much prayer, encouragement, and support from God’s people, Chris and his family are surviving the event that should have killed him.  The Henze family is now using the experience to educate and love the youth and families of Concordia as well as others who have gone through similar incidents.
